Katie O'Connor

Katie started gymnastics at the age of 5 to correct postural issues caused by her visual impairment, specialising in rhythmic gymnastics at age 11 at which time she commenced on the competitive pathway and was selected for the disability Team GB Squad. She went on to have a fantastic career in Disability Gymnastics claiming over 30 national titles, including 15 times British Champion. These achievements saw her finish her competitive career as the most decorated Disability Rhythmic Gymnast in the UK. Katie trained at South Essex Gymnastics Club and coached since she was 16 and is now Assistant Head Coach of Rhythmic. She has a passion for increasing accessibility to sports, focusing on unlocking everyone’s full potential, prioritising equality and inclusion.
Qualifications: UKCC Level 2 Rhythmic Gymnastics, UKCC Level 2 General Gymnastics, UKCC Level 1 Trampolining Gymnastics, BTEC Level 3 in Sport and Exercise Science, IAO Level 2 Diploma in Active Leisure for Exercise Professionals, QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Enhanced DBS, Safeguarding and Protecting Children.
Saffron Severn
Director & Head Coach
Saffron began her competitive gymnastics career at the age of 7 leading to her status as a team GB and England squad gymnast. She competed internationally at many competitions including the World Championships. Saffron achieved numerous British, English and national titles including British Champion in 2019. Her greatest achievement was in 2022, winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, making history for the country. During Saffron’s competitive career, she endured many challenges and injuries impacting on her mental health, sparking an interest in the mental well-being and safety of athletes, using her lived experience to strive to create a positive environment when she is coaching.
Qualifications: UKCC Level 1 Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach, Enhanced DBS, Safeguarding and Protecting children.
