RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS 4 SCHOOLS
What is Rhythmic Gymnastics?
Rhythmic Gymnastics is an Olympic discipline that blurs the boundaries between sport and art. Merging the elegance of ballet, the expression of acting, athleticism of gymnastics and flexibility of contorsion. Competitive gymnasts perform on a 14m-by-14m carpet using various apparatus, either individually or as a group. They complete breath taking manoeuvres of the body whilst intricately handling the apparatus to create mesmerising routines lasting between 1.5 – 2.5 minutes long.
The five apparatus are:
Rope – Made of hemp or synthetic material, measuring up to the gymnasts’ armpits with a knot at either end.
Hoop - Made of plastic, measuring between 65-90cm.
